The past five days we have been helping the preschool teacher teach the babies and toddlers. The two oldest children are young three year olds. Jenni has five classes each day, three in the morning and two in the afternoon. The first class starts at 7:45 in the morning! It is great to see the children learn new things and have so much fun!
Tuesday, I helped teach all the classes, it was fun but tiring! Usually one or two of us helps with each class throughout the day. It takes a lot of energy to teach the children! I have even greater respect now for my teachers and how much energy it uses to teach several classes a day!
The preschool teacher is a volunteer at Hope Foster Home for one year. She has been here for six months and lives on-site. Jenni was adopted at several years old and grew up in the U.S. She is so patient with the children and such a gifted teacher. For instance, she gives them special snacks as visuals and plans neat crafts. This week the class is learning the letter L and she made lemonade for them to drink, showed them a lemon and planned a lion craft.
The children enjoy play-doh and use beautiful aprons the McKeeby family donated recently. Mrs. McKeeby handmade the aprons.
Each day in preschool is a fun time of learning with water activity, bubbles, reading, art and music.

I have the cutest photo of Max, sitting in the high chair, with a smock, and painting. He has a cute little grin on his face too. The preschool does amazing work. Would you pass along this story: Shortly after Max came home, we had the Birth to 3 folks out, to test him on developmental stuff. They test on everything from gross motor, to fine motor, to communication, to social stuff. They were all very impressed by how much Max knew, and I attribute much of this to his New Hope preschool! He was right at his age for all these categories, and usually, kiddos in an institution have catching up to do. Nope. Not Max. He was right there developmentally. So THANK YOU New Hope preschool. You have profound effects on the kiddos.
ReplyDeleteMiss Zara the Teacher! So, you think you want to teach? I know these kids had to love having you as their teacher's aid. The teacher sounds like such a sweet, good person and teacher. By the way, your writing is so descriptive. I feel like I know the teacher and her class. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us. Love you and tell the rest of the D crew that we love them! Uncle David
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome experience for you, Zara to be a teacher for these special, special babies, and what a tremendous blessing you are for the babies! We are loving the blogs. Keep writing!
